Position Purpose

This position is responsible for overseeing the programming, development, and conduct of female Residence Hall students, as well as providing support to the Residence Life & Student Conduct program for the holistic development of students. Resident Directors at North Central University serve as on-campus, professional staff.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Oversee programming for residence hall students and groups by:

  • Fostering a positive residence hall community by being involved and visible in the assigned residence hall and investing in the lives of students.
  • Participating in selection, training and supervising a team of student leaders including an Assistant Resident Director (ARD), Resident Advisors (RAs), and Discipleship Leaders (DLs).
  • Conducting a weekly team meeting and bi-weekly individual meetings with student staff members.
  • Developing relationships and responding to the individual needs of students within the residence hall. This includes crisis intervention, student conduct, and student care.
  • Rotating on-call, emergency response duties with other Resident Directors.
  • Working with professional staff and student staff to develop and implement programming that fulfills residence life mission and student learning outcomes.
  • Developing a residence hall environment conducive to spiritual, emotional, and intellectual growth.
  • Assisting with specialized trainings at the beginning of each semester for residence life and other student leaders.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Managing and maintaining student housing records, conduct and care information, and a residence hall budget.
  • Overseeing the residence hall check-in and check-out procedures including the assessment of damages to the residence hall rooms.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Previous student development experience preferred.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Demonstrated Christian character and servant leadership.
  • Commitment to University mission and statement of faith.
  • Ability to work in supervisory, collegial, and/or mentoring relationships with others, including staff, faculty, and students.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to fully use, technological resources including a wide variety of computer programs and applications.
  • Residence Life knowledge and experience is preferred.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to communicate and follow up verbally and in writing to ensure shared understanding of accurate information.
  • Ability to deal with conflict resolution in a professional manner.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and conflicting priorities to accomplish tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and independently.

Working conditions and frequency

Environmental Conditions

  • This is a live-in position and requires availability during non-traditional business hours.
  • Work environment involves dealing with matters of sensitive and confidential nature as well as dealing with conflict and other potentially difficult situations.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, reach, and lift above the head required.
  • Position involves repetitive motions of the fingers, hands, and wrists on a daily basis.
  • Working environment involves work in an urban, Christ-centered university.

Equipment and Tools

  • Position involves the use of multiple technologies including the computer and its software, campus security system, and copy machine.
